THE BAY’S BEST

The Clarence Bistro

The Bay of Plenty’s hospitality industry acknowledged the best of the Bay with the announcement of the winners of the Hospitality Awards. These awards recognise outstanding hospitality professionals across the country by region, all intended to grow and develop the hospitality culture throughout New Zealand.

The Clarence Bistro took out three awards, winning outstanding restaurant, ambience and design and best chef for Ian Harrison. Real Rad Food, who are known for their plant-based cakes and desserts, won the People’s Choice award, with outstanding bar of the year going to The Rising Tide. Similarly, outstanding cocktail experience went to Rye Bar and Grill, who are known for their curated list of cocktails.

Izakai, in the new Bayfair Shopping Centre, won best new establishment, while The Barrio Brothers picked up two awards—outstanding front of house team, as well as best bartender going to Katie Short.

Marisa Bidois, CEO of the Restaurant Association of New Zealand, said, “With a growing population that swells in the summer months, the region’s hospitality establishments play an important role in entertaining and hosting guests.”

“As an industry, it’s so important that we take time out to celebrate our success and acknowledge our achievements. We believe it’s important to shine a light on our industry and make sure we are recognised for the contribution we make to our community and economy.”
