TAPAS CHAMPION FOUND

New Zealand’s representative to the World Tapas Competition to be held in Spain later this year has been revealed as Shuyun Chen of SKYCITY. Chen will travel to Spain to take part in the Tapas World Cup, which will feature chefs from all around the globe.

Chen was selected as winner of the Australasian Tapas Competition, held at Ignite Colleges over the weekend. Competitors were tasked with creating five innovative portions of tapas in just 25 minutes, which were then judged by a range of culinary experts including Auckland chef Nick Honeyman and e-Spain CEO and founder Angel Moreton.

Chen will now go on to compete against 14 other tapas chefs from all around the world, in Valladolid from November 5 – 7, when the Spanish city plays host to the world’s biggest food cooking show, which also includes the 14th National Pinchos and Tapas Competition, and the World Tapas Festival.

As part of her training Chen will work with Jasbir Kaur, general manager of Ignite Colleges and President of Chef Association Auckland region.
