An unsuspecting YouTuber almost ignited a national scandal when he placed a GoPro camera on a conveyor belt at a sushi restaurant. The camera travelled around the restaurant for almost seven minutes before it went back into the food preparation area, where it was taken by staff and returned to ‘TkyoSam’ with no fuss.
However, subsequent reaction has been far from calm. While the majority of comments on the YouTube video were positive, a minor storm has been brewing over sanitary and privacy concerns. In response the restaurant, popular chain Akindo Sushiro, released a strongly worded statement explaining that the conveyor belt has been cleaned and disinfected and, as a result of the incident, is now banning all photography within its premises.
The sushi train video is nothing new, with personal VCR videos emerging from as early as 1998, and the genre being well established on streaming sites.
