SUSHI FOR FOLLOWERS

A sushi restaurant in Milan is offering customers free dishes to customers who have more than 100,000 Instagram followers, in return for posting a photo of their food.

“A pop-up restaurant in London came up with a similar idea a couple of years ago, but it only lasted a few weeks,” said co-owner Matteo Pittarallo. “The same thing happened in St Petersburg. We intend to be the first restaurant in the world to offer this on a permanent basis.”

The system works on a sliding scale – anyone with 1000 to 5000 followers will get one free plate of sushi or sashimi, those with between 5000 and 10,000 will receive two free plates, while anyone with over 50,000 will get four dishes and those with up to 100,000 will receive eight free plates. Anyone who can boast over 100,000 followers will eat for free.

“This is just one of six restaurants we have in our chain and 90 per cent of our business is for home deliveries and takeaway food,” Pittarello said. “It will only be a small proportion of our customers who take advantage of the offer. The aim is to raise our visibility.”
