REDEFINING THE NORM

New Zealand-born Bruce Price has been named as the new executive head chef of luxurious Scottish Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club. Price, who has cooked all over the world, has been recognised as ‘Scottish Chef of the Year’ three times over. Breaking through any misconceptions, Price has been deaf since birth, something he has not let himself become restricted by. “I’ve never, ever let my deafness restrict my ambition to become a great chef,” said Price. “I have never seen it as a disadvantage.”

Although Price said that things in his kitchen look a little different to the typical kitchen, the communication remains mostly verbal. He noted that while his introduction means a slightly different way of working for the existing team, he does not think it will take long for the team to gel.

“I’m very much looking forward to settling in at Dalmahoy and getting to know my team here. I’m passionate about good ingredients used well. I’m all about using and sourcing Scottish produce in my menus, an ethos which Dalmahoy also shares, so I felt we would be a good match.”
