Port and Eagle in Kaiapoi fighting vandals and thieves

The Port and Eagle gastro-pub in Kaiapoi is sick of repeated vandalism and thievery. The pub opened on March 1st and has already been the subject of the theft of their gas bottles and other equipment, graffiti, and other acts of vandalism. David Gaughan, the pub’s owner, took to Facebook to appeal to the public, “Having experienced insufficient police action over our incidents here at the Port and Eagle Brewpub, we are looking for people who are prepared to help us form a group to deal with perpetrators ourselves.”

The recently opened venue was partially paid for by crowdfunding, a Pledge Me campaign raised $300,000. The support from the community has been positive; most of them applauding Gaughan for his vigilance. The pub is the star feature of Kaiapoi’s new revamped riverbank.
