NORTHTEC STUDENT HEADS TO NZ HOSPITALITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

One of NorthTec’s hospitality students Nik Ponomarov is headed to the New Zealand Hospitality Championships in Auckland this year. Nik began his career at NorthTec as a Trades Academy student commuting every day from Kaitaia through Te Kura Correspondence school. He then went on to get his NZ Certificate in Cookery Level 4 in 2016 and has just graduated with a New Zealand Diploma in Cookery Level 5. Nik will be competing in the Training Chef of the Year category and has to compete in three classes: Knife Skills, Live Salmon and Live Dessert.  He qualified for this national event by competing at the Northland Salon Culinaire where he won every class he competed in and came away with an overall Gold for Training Chef of the Year. Once the competition is finished at the end of July, Nik is moving to Auckland to pursue his culinary career.
