The Hospitality & Tourism industry is one of the fastest growing industries on SEEK, driven by strong growth in tourism numbers from both domestic and foreign visitors.
Nationally over the past three months [May to July 2017], job ads on SEEK for the Hospitality & Tourism industry grew 9 per cent when compared to the same period last year.
Janet Faulding, General Manager for SEEK New Zealand, said Hospitality & Tourism is currently the eleventh largest advertising industry on SEEK [May to July 2017].
“Helping fuel job ad growth on SEEK across the Hospitality & Tourism industry is the increasing demand for professionals to service the rising number of tourists visiting New Zealand and an increase of Kiwis travelling domestically,” said Faulding.
“The latest International Travel and Migration report, conducted by Stats NZ, found the number of international visitors to New Zealand rose by 10 per cent y/y in June 2017 when compared to June 2016,” said Faulding.
Over the past three months, the jobs in the Hospitality & Tourism industry that offered the most opportunities on SEEK were predominately food service roles:

Despite strong job ad growth on SEEK, the Hospitality & Tourism industry is facing some changes. “Advances in technology are disrupting the industry, and we’re seeing fewer job ads on SEEK for certain Hospitality & Tourism roles,” revealed Faulding.
“From May to July this year, there was a decline in advertising on SEEK for Airline Workers [down 24 per cent y/y] and Reservation Professionals [down 9 per cent y/y],” said Faulding. “All these jobs are experiencing a rise in online competition and automation.”
Over the past 12 months [1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017] the national average advertised annual salary on SEEK for the Hospitality & Tourism industry was up 1 per cent y/y to $52,312.
