NEW ZEALANDERS SPEND $80M AT KFC IN THREE MONTHS

Fast-food chain KFC lifted sales 6.7% from the previous year's first quarter report, contributing to its owner and operator Restaurant Brand New Zealand's over sales increase of 1.6%.

The NZ KFC chain contributed $80m, up from $75m, to Restaurant Brand's overall growth from $180 million to $182.2 million.

Restaurant Brand's overall number of stores fell by 22 over the year, largely because it sold 22 Starbucks Coffee outlets in October last year. The company also owns the master franchising rights to Pizza Hut, Carl's Jr., and Taco Bell.

The company says it is planning to roll-out 60 Taco Bell stores across Australasia, as well as 30 new KFC stores. It also plans to refurbish 50-60 KFC stores across Australasia in the next five years.
