Katy Mecchia is the new owner of The Monday Room on Christchurch’s High Street, bringing almost 20 years of experience in the industry.
“I’m excited to build upon The Monday Room’s awesome culinary reputation and to introduce features like ‘Trust the Somm’ and ‘Trust the Mixologist’,” she explained. “I want people to enter through our warzone façade down High St and feel like they’ve escaped into a fantastical world of decadence where something unexpected and wonderful awaits.”
Mecchia opened her first restaurant in Fox Glacier in 2001, but The Monday Room will be her first venue in Christchurch.
The Monday Room has recently been gaining plaudits for its Scandinavian-inspired fare, created by Finnish head chef Eeva Torvinen, and Mecchia has sought the help of Stephen Wong, one of only 13 Masters of Wine in New Zealand, to provide wine matches.
