Desmond Davies has been appointed as the international chef for Te Pae Christchurch convention centre.

Davies will bring 20 years of experience on his belt, having worked in the hospitality sector across Malaysia, Africa and Europe. The global chef has also spent time working as part of the catering team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Durban, which has allowed him to work in convention centres in the country as well as in Borneo.

The new appointment will showcase fresh and locally sourced foods met with a local and international flavour.

"I like to use local ingredients where I can, to ensure that the meal is the best quality it can be," said Davies. "I also enjoy creating classic dishes that really make the local ingredients stand out."

Davies shared his excitement in joining the Te Pae Christchurch team, as he believes it is a local leader in the culinary sector that highlights the quality of domestic food production and presents it to a diverse international audience.

Davies will join Christchurch local Sandra Hintz in the Te Pae Christchurch culinary team. Hintz is a former administration manager at Christchurch Casino and has an impressive 30 years' experience in the food and beverage industry.

Christchurch Convention Centre was demolished in early 2012 following the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. It will reopen its doors as Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre in 2020 and will offer a wide variety of dining options, from menus designed for small groups to large scale dinners and events.
