Private investment firm Cooper and Company has appointed a new director of hospitality based at the 1000-acre Bay of Islands property, The Landing. Garth Solly has over 20 years of commercial hospitality experience, including working in the hotel industry across Australasia, India and Thailand. The firm created the role in a bid to meet the increasing growth of The Landing as a luxury accommodation offering.

“We’re delighted to have someone of Garth’s calibre take up this exciting new role,” said Matthew Cockram, chief executive at Cooper and Company. “His experience gives us great confidence that he will lead the team well and continue developing exceptional experiences for our guests.”

Director of hospitality includes a leadership position in Cooper and Company’s future hospitality ventures. It also requires working with The Hotel Britomart team on the guest experience at The Landing Suites, which is set to launch five new luxurious suites in mid-2020 that will occupy the top floors of the hotel.

“The Landing Suites at The Hotel Britomart are an opportunity for us to bring some of the unique experiences of The Landing that our guests value so highly into the heart of Britomart,” shared Cockram.

Solly’s new appointment isn’t exactly a relocation, but more of a long-awaited return to the Bay of Islands where he previously worked as a general manager for the internationally acclaimed Robertson Lodges of New Zealand.
