The readers of luxury lifestyle magazine Elite Traveler have voted for the best restaurant in the world, with Chicago’s Alinea Restaurant coming out on top. The poll isn’t for the poor of pocket though – the magazine is aimed at those who own or use private jets and have a median household income of US$2.2 million and a net worth of US41 million.

The list featured a number of big name chefs, such as Gordon Ramsay, Guy Savoy and Heston Blumenthal. Eventual winner Alinea is no stranger to plaudits – it is Chicago’s only three-starred Michelin restaurant, received the AAA Five Diamond Award, ranked ninth on the S. Pellegrino 50 Best Restaurants list and received the 2016 James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Restaurant.
