Michelin has unveiled its first official guide in Beijing on November 28. The highly anticipated guide consists of 23 restaurants that were all awarded the coveted stars.
The Beijing outpost of Xin Rong Ji was the only one to receive the highest rank of stars, while its two other locations received a single star each. The seafood-centric chain first opened its doors in Zhejiang in 1995.
“From strictly selected ingredients to impeccable skills and exemplary service, every detail has been delivered to its best. It has been a complete and extremely enjoyable dining experience made possible by comprehensive orchestration and thoughtful arrangement,” wrote Michelin in its official statement of Xin Rong Ji.
Other notable inclusions in the guide was the renowned Peking duck restaurant, Da Dong. Mio, an Italian restaurant at the Four Seasons hotel received one star while vegetarian restaurant King’s Joy was granted two.
The Michelin guide had mixed reviews from locals. While others found it encouraging, some questioned the institution’s authority in deciding what’s good and what isn’t.
