LONG WAIT FOR WELLY RESTAURANT

An award-winning restaurant in Wellington closed its doors in December and is yet to reopen. While it was known that Jano Bistro would close as staff went on an ‘extended break’, there was no indication how long the break would be and after six months restaurant management have confirmed that the break is set to continue for a few months more.

An email auto-reply from the restaurant says it will be closed ‘for a few months’ and will let patrons know via a newsletter and social media.

"During this period we may be overseas or preoccupied with other projects, so we apologise if we may not be able to respond to some emails or take some time to reply."

Jano Bistro has been a popular fixture on the Wellington culinary scene and won Best Dish at VISA Wellington on a Plate a few years ago. Head chef Pierre-Alain Fenoux also won the Chef of the Capital award in 2014.

Customers who have purchased vouchers have been told by the Commerce Commission that as long as the restaurant remains solvent, refunds can be requested. The Wellington City Council confirmed that Jano Bistro had reapplied for its health license and there was nothing to suggest that it was set to close permanently.
