Local coffee sets up shop in Suva

Award-winning coffee roasters Weta Coffee have opened a café in the heart of the Fijian capital of Suva.

“We’re proud to provide the finest, award-winning coffee from New Zealand to our valued customers in Fiji,” said Weta co-founder Miles Masters. “Fiji and New Zealand have historically maintained close ties, whether in trade or through friends or family, and what better way to bring us together than through delicious coffee?”

Masters and co-founder Sandra Allen were recently in Suva to carry out barista training. Weta Coffee (Fiji) is owned and operated by Darren and Mue Bentley Fisher, and also act as distributors of the coffee on the island group.

“We’re thrilled about introducing Weta Coffee to Fiji,” Mue said. “Miles and Sandra have created an exceptional product in their award-winning coffee. We’re delighted to offer the Weta Hot Chocolate too!”

Weta Coffee won silver at the New Zealand coffee awards in 2015 and also won silver at the NZ Chocolate Awards in 2017 and 2018 for its Weta Hot Chocolate.

The brand was born in the Auckland suburb of One Tree Hill in 2014.
