LITTLE BIRD ORGANICS

Creator of Little Bird Organics, Megan May grew up on an organic farm surrounded by an abundance of fresh produce where her mother and grandmother made everything from scratch; no sauces from tins or packets of pastry. May spoke to the team about how, almost by accident, Little Bird began.

What is your company background, how did you start the business?

“At a young age, I was diagnosed with a number of food allergies. It was a time before wholefood cafes and easily accessible gluten-free or dairy-free options, and so I spent several years suffering from tummy aches and endless colds. My family background and poor health as a child gave me a solid understanding of the connection between food and wellness, and being my own living case study and experiment; I found that I recovered and thrived on a predominantly raw, wholefoods, plant-based diet. It was then that Little Bird Organics was born, out of both a necessity for myself, as well as a passion for high quality, plant-based sustainable food.”

What are the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

“Our products are entirely gluten-free, dairy-free, refined cane-sugar free, vegan and paleo friendly. We believe that you should be able to recognise all the ingredients in your food, and so we choose to use only 100 percent wholesome and nutritious ingredients that will help your body thrive.

We currently sell four flavours of granola, two flavours of crackers, trail clusters, salad clusters, and five flavours of macaroons.

Little Bird Organics was born at a time when there were very limited and mostly un-palatable options for those with food allergies. Many gluten-free options for basics such as cereals, bread and crackers were largely refined and lacking in sustainable energy and nutrition. Therefore, being gluten, dairy and sugar intolerant myself, I set out to make my own basics. I had been perfecting my grawnola and macaroons for around six months when I was encouraged to sell some at a stand, and much to my surprise, everyone loved them. Several organic store buyers happened to be there and wanted to stock the products. And so Little Bird began.”

Has there been any recent company news?

“We have recently launched a new recipe app called The Unbakery App which has over 100+ new recipes. The recipes are 100 percent plant-based, gluten-free, dairy-free, refined cane sugar-free, as well as paleo and vegan-friendly. The App can be purchased on the App store for $7.49.”

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

“We plan to expand our products range, it’s a little top secret at the moment, but in the works are new flavours of our current products as well as new items like cookies and kale chips.”

Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability? If so, where would you like to see the product situated?

“Available at selected Farro Fresh stores, New Worlds, Nosh stores and various health stores.”
