LEADING RESTAURANT CEOS PAY REVEALED

The total amount of money earned last year by some of the world’s most prominent restaurant CEOs has been revealed. The range varies from around $300,000 to more than $33 million. Often, the pay that the CEO received is indicative of how well the company performed around the same time. For example, Sardar Biglari, the CEO and chairman of Biglari Holdings, who own Steak ‘n Shake, amongst other places, went from $8.3 million in 2017, to $900,000 in 2018. This was primarily due to the slower year that Steak ‘n Shake had experienced.

In comparison, Dave Boennighausen catapulted from $931,895 in 2017 to $1.9 million in 2018, springboarding off the back of Noodles & Company Inc.’s favourable tradings.

The top six for 2018 were Kevin Johnson, CEO and president of Starbucks, who earned $13.4 million; Greg Creed, CEO of Yum Brands Inc., who earned $14 million; Gene Lee, CEO and president of Darden Restaurants Inc., who earned $15.8 million; Stephen Easterbrook, CEO and president of McDonald’s Corp, who earned $15.9 million; Daniel Schwartz, CEO of Restaurant Brands International Inc., who earned $18.8 million; and Brian Niccol, CEO of Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc., who earned $33.5 million.
