Lancashire restaurant named UK’s best

Lancashire restaurant Moor Hall has been crowned the best restaurant in the UK.

The eatery in Aughton, which earned two Michelin stars within two years of opening, is one of 23 north of England and Scottish restaurants featured in Restaurant Magazine's top 100 annual poll, now in its 12th year.

This year, 54 of the top 100 restaurants were located in London. Moor Hall placed 6th last year. The restaurant is situated within a Grade II-listed 16th century farmhouse with seven guest rooms, and is overseen by chef-patron Mark Birchall, previously head chef at L'Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria, which also has two Michelin stars.

“Mark is an incredibly talented chef who has a clear ambition to not just create one of the best restaurants in the UK but in the world,” said Stefan Chomka, the editor of Restaurant magazine. “Moor Hall is an almost immaculate experience. Mark’s food is clever and inventive but also delicious, the service is exceptional and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. It’s an outstanding restaurant that deserves its title as the best in the UK.”
