IS COFFEE A NATURAL SKINCARE REMEDY?

Coffee isn’t just a stimulant that gets your brain ticking, it might also be beneficial for your skin. In a Nurses’ Health Study with more than 82,000 participants, it was found that drinking four cups of coffee per day reduces the chances of developing rosacea.

Rosacea is a skin condition that causes redness spots and pus-filled bumps on the face, normally treated with antibiotics. Women who drank less than a cup a month were 23 percent more likely to be diagnosed with the skin disorder.

Author and professor of dermatology at Brown University, We-Qing Li, was optimistic about the results, but wary not to jump the gun because the study was initially focussed around rosacea rather than coffee.

“We would positively anticipate that caffeine intake and caffeinated coffee consumption may be beneficial for lessening rosacea severity as well, but this would require further clinical investigation,” Li said.
