HOUSE OF DUMPLINGS

At House of Dumplings, the team believes in honest, guilt-free comfort food and offer a range of handmade dumplings crafted in the traditional Chinese style. Founder Vicky Ha shared her values of sourcing local ingredients and environmental sustainability with the team.

What is your company background, how did you start the business?

“House of Dumplings started in the vibrant food markets of Wellington, New Zealand and is now an institution. The aim has always been to provide real comfort food that is also nutritious. We believe in using only real quality ingredients with no shortcuts at all, creating the kind of dumplings grandma would make.

Today, we make hand crafted delicious dumplings using the best possible local ingredients in our Wellington kitchen. The dumplings are made in traditional Chinese style, passed through families for countless generations. Everything is made from scratch by our chefs.

We are a small, friendly and passionate team at House of Dumplings. We care about dumplings, making our customers happy, and this beautiful country we live in. We hope you can see this in our business and, most importantly, in our delicious handmade dumplings.”

What are the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

“Our food is only flavoured with fresh herbs, spices and seasoning. You will not find any MSG, artificial colouring or flavouring in our range whatsoever. Our pork comes from the Wairarapa, our beef from Taupo; all our poultry is free range from Rangitikei, most of the vegetables come from Levin, even the flour is milled in Wellington; this means our produce only travels an average of 150 kilometres to get to our kitchen.”

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

“Environmental sustainability is a priority so we try our best to minimise the impact on our planet with at least 90 percent of our packaging being biodegradable. It is very important to us to measure and reduce our environmental cost when it comes to our product and reduce and reuse wherever possible.

Our emphasis on sustainability coincides with our desire to source our ingredients as locally as possible. We build strong relationships with producers to ensure they share our values of sustainability and ethical practices.”

Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability? If so, where would you like to see the product situated?

“Available from supermarkets around New Zealand including Moore Wilsons, New World, Farro Fresh, Pak ‘n Save and FreshChoice.”_DSC3112 HOD 15-132dumplingsdumplings2
