Goodbye, Wagamama

Asian-fusion restaurant chain, Wagamama, has announced its closure in New Zealand. Despite the Wagamama’s website hinting that the closure is potentially only temporary, the closure of its New Zealand’s stores is very much real.

The website read, “We are very sorry that our time in New Zealand has, for now, come to an end. We’d like to raise our chopsticks and thank all our loyal customers who have visited us at Wagamama New Zealand over the years.”

Although there has been an outpouring of disappointment from many fans in New Zealand, the chain struggled to break through into an already saturated Asian-fusion dining scene. The first Wagamama was opened in 1992 in London, and the brand finds particular popularity amongst its British consumers. There are also Wagamama restaurants in the United States.
