The line-up for 2019's Craft'd Masterclass has been announced, with award-winning distillers, winemakers, and writers all providing their expertise.
The event, part of the Craft'd Wine and Spirits Festival on July 21st, will see four speakers delivering five talks over the course of the afternoon at Auckland's Wynyard Quarter.
Glass Appreciation
Kicking off proceedings for the day is Yvonne Lorkin, one of New Zealand's most prolific drinks editors and wine writers. "It's not just what it's inside the glass that counts," says Lorkin, who will use the talk to explain why the right drinking vessel is crucial in wine tasting.
Demystifying Wine for Newbies
Founder of MOI Wines and Imbibe Tribe Renée Dale will use this fun, interactive talk to explore what wine actually is, as well as how to taste it, talk about it, and match it with food.
Gin, Laid Bare
Jill Mulvaney is a craft distiller with over 25 years' experience in the industry. This hands-on session invites attendees to taste, touch, and smell individual micro-distilled botanical essences. There is also the opportunity to blend your own artisan, one-off gin in a handcrafted European copper still.
International Fizz
Wine writer Yvonne Lorkin returns for her second talk of the day after Mulvaney, this time exploring the world of bubbles. Lorkin will pop the cork on a smorgasbord of sparkling styles, and look at the different process and grapes used to make our favourite fizz, from Champagne to Charmat.
Why Single Vineyards?
The final talk of the day comes from Felton Road expert winemaker Blair Walter. Walter will showcase three pairs of wines, two pairs from Felton Road and one pair from Burgundy, demonstrating and discussing the site-expressiveness of wines. Blair Walter helped earn Felton Road 9th place in The World's Most Admired Wine Brands 2018 by Drinks International.
