Food theme park celebrates first birthday

FICO Eataly World, the world’s largest food theme park, has just celebrated its first birthday. The food park, the brainchild of Oscar Farinetti, gives guests the opportunity to try and purchase different types of Italian food all under one roof.

The massive building holds 45 eateries including restaurants, bistros, trattorias and kiosks, with food options ranging from street foods to Michelin-starred meals. There are also 40 factory exhibits, where guests can see how cured meat, pasta and cheese is created. The park is so large that FICO provides bicycles as transport.

Local officials say that since opening near Bologna in November last year, the area has seen a spike in tourism.
