A PledgeMe campaign has raised the required $120,000 needed for pay-as-you-like pop-up restaurant Everybody Eats to become a permanent fixture.
Since launching a year ago the pop-up, held in K Road’s Gemmayze St restaurant has fed over 7000 people with donated food and made with volunteer labour. Founder Nick Loosely said that around a third of all customers paid for their meal, often between $10 and $20.
"The best thing for the first permanent restaurant is to continue doing the work we do, stopping food going to waste, feeding people in need and brining different people together around a good meal. If we can make it financially sustainable then we have a model we can roll out."
Loosely said that there are plans open a pop-up restaurant in Christchurch and, if the permanent model is successful, he plans to open permanent restaurants around the country.
