DEVONPORT CHOCOLATES

A ferry trip across the Waitemata Harbour wouldn’t be complete without stopping by the iconic Devonport Chocolates store. Owners Stephanie and Terry Everitt talked to the team about their delectable products.

What is your company background, how did you start the business?

“Devonport Chocolates was started in 1991 and is now one of NZs oldest handmade chocolate companies. We purchased the business in 1999 and have developed the business focussing on quality handcrafted indulgence.”

What is the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

“All our products are gluten free and the Fairtrade Hot Chocolate range are not only gluten free but vegan friendly as well. The main features of the current range include the original product – the Devonport Chocolates truffles slice,  the chocolate assortments are a foundation of our sales, the chocolate bars are increasingly popular and our Fair Trade Hot Chocolate has been so popular we have redesigned the packaging recently and added cocoa to the range”

Has there been any recent company news?

“For the last few years we have been working with the Moa Plantation in Samoa and developed a single origin chocolate tablet range. We were delighted when we were awarded a gold star award in the UK Great Taste Awards in 2016”

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

“We plan to develop our Samoan chocolate bar range, add more flavours to the chocolate bar range and continue with refining our assortments offering.”

Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability?

“We are available in selected New Worlds – Thorndon and Hastings , Fresh Choice Merivale and Halfmoon Bay. We would like to be stocked in further supermarkets and food stores who offer a quality range.”
