Images shared on social media have led to the firing of a Zomato delivery driver, after he was caught tucking in to a customer’s meal, before resealing the package and continuing with the delivery.
The video, filmed in India, shows the man in a Zomato uniform sitting on a moped and eating from a box of food, before replacing the lid, putting the container back in the heating bag and continuing with the delivery.
Zomato said that it had a “zero-tolerance” policy towards food tampering and the driver has since been fired.
“We have spoken to him at length and while we understand that this was a human error in judgment, we have taken him off our platform,” the company said in a statement. It also said that it would soon introduce “tamper proof tapes” and will educate their delivery fleet as further precautions.
