CLEAN PALEO

Born out of a frustration with limited breakfasts for those adhering to a paleo diet, Clean Living is going from strength to strength. The team spoke to Art Green about the where the business is now, and where it is heading.

What is your company background, how did you start the business?

“CleanPaleo was born four years ago as a solution to a problem. The problem - there were no convenient breakfast options for people wanting to follow a paleo diet and we were getting sick of bacon and eggs every morning. The solution - create a breakfast cereal that contained no grains, artificial ingredients or refined sugar - the first of its kind here in NZ. Jump forward to present day CleanPaleo is owned and run by Ryan Kamins and myself and now has a broad range of quality, healthy and convenient products.”

What is the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

“We manufacture all of our products in Auckland and have developed our manufacturing facility to cater to the specialised requirements of our products.  CleanPaleo adheres to strict health guidelines and all products are free from gluten, grains, refined sugar, dairy, and any artificial ingredients.

Current products include:

Cereals (or as we call them Breakfast Blends because they don’t actually contain any cereal)

- Original Crunch
- Manuka Crunch
- Cacao Berry
- Fruit Fusion

We are the only company that chops their nuts and roasts on the natural and organic flavourings.

Protein Powders

- Vanilla
- Chocolate
- Mango
- Mochaccino

We produce the only protein powders made from free-range egg white and flavoured with real food.

Biltong

- Original
- Mild Chili
- Chipotle & Garlic

We are the only company that does not add sugar and artificial flavours to our biltong. We are also the only company that vacuum seals our product to retain the moisture and flavour.”

Has there been any recent company news?

“We were a finalist at the Food Awards last year with our Cacao Berry. We have recently launched the new flavours of biltong (Mild Chili and Chipotle & Garlic). We have recently been ranged nationwide with Foodstuffs. We have also recently started selling on Amazon in The States where our Manuka Crunch is the top of its category and has earned the valuable "Amazon's Choice" status. We are about to do a public capital raise through Snowball Effect.”

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

“We have recently started exporting to Australia so are looking to get that cranking this year. We have also recently started selling on Amazon in The States and will look to continue expanding into this market.”

Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability?

“We have had a long and great relationship with Farro stores up in Auckland, and Moore Wilsons in Wellington, who have continued to stock us from the start. As of 18 months ago we have been available throughout NZ in most Countdown supermarkets, and as of last month have started supplying starting New World supermarkets and selected Pak N Saves.”
