Christchurch favourite closes down

Christchurch favourite Little Sister has closed its doors after five years of operation. However, despite the volatile hospitality scene in Christchurch in the years after the earthquake, Little Sister is closing for other reasons – the building in which it is housed is being sold for redevelopments.

A video posted to the Little Sister Facebook page showed a time lapse of the café’s final day, which showed plenty of customers coming in and out. The café was hugely popular in the Templeton area, thanks to its dog-friendly approach, homemade baking and friendly staff.

“We really want to thank everyone who has supported as a local independent,” said co-owner Jane Hart.

The venue was also popular with community groups, and served as a meeting point following earthquake damage to local community halls. While the Harts have no plans to open a new café, they are expected to remain in the hospitality scene.
