Celebrity chef, Nusret Gokce, or ‘Salt Bae’ as he is popularly known, has given four-ex waiters from his Manhattan steakhouse a US$230,000 settlement a day before their court hearing after enquiring about tip dispensary.
The four employees claimed that when they asked about how the tips at the restaurant were divided, they were let go.
Complaints were laid with the National Labour Relations Board earlier this year when management withheld information regarding the restaurants tipping system. It has been reported that places withholding this sort of information usually have something to hide.
Amongst the tipping allegations, the four ex-waiters also said that the way Gokce runs his business is dictatorial.
Gokce has a chain of steakhouses across the world, from Dubai to the USA, to Turkey. He initially received widespread popularity after a video of him sprinkling salt onto some meat went viral.
