Burger Burger turns five

Burger Burger is kicking off its fifth-anniversary celebrations this week, and the popular eatery is holding a four-week-long party.

After opening its first restaurant in Ponsonby Central in 2014, Burger Burger quickly made a name for itself with its burgers, drinks and sides using quality, local ingredients. More than 150,000 customers visited that eatery in its first year, and two more restaurants have opened since to cater to demand.

Co-CEO and co-founder Mimi Gilmour said Burger Burger’s first five years have been an amazing ride and she can’t wait for the next five. “When we first opened Burger Burger, we simply wanted to offer honest burgers made from scratch using real food sourced from local suppliers who care as much as we do,” she said. “Fast forward five years and we are still here and still growing, but we have never compromised on the consistency, quality or values we started with. We have a dream to be New Zealand’s most loved hospitality brand and we won’t stop until we get there.”

Over the past five years, Burger Burger has served up 1.4 million burgers, almost 250,000 shakes, 222,000 bowls of fries and 118,000 serves - almost 32 tonnes - of charred broccoli.

To celebrate this milestone, the restaurants will have several special menu items over the course of four weeks. Back by popular demand is the Giant Birthday Burger, a special feast for four or more that’s loaded with an 850 gram free-range beef patty, cheddar cheese, free-range smoked bacon, cos lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, tomato jam, mustard, mayonnaise – and a whole heap of shoestring and curly fries. Burger Burger will also be offering a sweet “Party In Your Mouth” collaboration with DOE Donuts.

Burger Burger also has eyes on further expansion this year, with new restaurants confirmed for Christchurch and Mount Maunganui opening in May.
