AUGUSTUS BISTRO SOLD TO MUDBRICK

The owners of Waiheke Island’s iconic Mudbrick Vineyard & Restaurant will take over struggling fine dining restaurant Augustus Bistro, which was put into liquidation last month owing $660,000. The restaurant will reopen under its new owners by mid-October, but will move away from classic French fine dining.

"We are excited to revive Augustus and take it to a new level," said Mudbrick co-owner Robyn Jones. "I recently purchased a house in Ponsonby in February and feel a real connection with Ponsonby, and Nick has had an apartment in the area for many years now, so when such a special space and opportunity arose, we both felt the time was right to extend our operations city side."

The kitchen will be taken over by Logan Coat, who currently serves as culinary director and head chef at Archive Bar and Bistro, part of Mudbrick’s Waiheke operation.

Tony Maginness, who was appointed liquidator last month, was pleased with the result.

"I was really pleased with the high level of interest during the sales process and the sale provides a positive financial result to creditors of the company."
