Auckland café in racism row

An Auckland café has come under fire after writing “Asians” on a receipt in order to identify a group. The Falls Restaurant in West Auckland was forced to apologise for what the manager called a “mistake” by a new staff member.

The woman who received the receipt said that she and her friends had laughed about it because it was so ridiculous, but said that it was “disappointing.”

“As a group of 'Asians' born in this country, we were truly shocked at the restaurant for their incredibly racist service.”

The Falls management blamed a busy service period on the error.

“It was a mistake by the waiter, she's new and she should not have done that,” said manager Arvind Kumar. “We never do this and we will never do that again.”

Kumar said that the group had sat at an unnumbered table while the restaurant was very busy, so the waiter had written “Asians” as a means to identify the group.

As usual, the restaurant’s Facebook page has been inundated with negative reviews, which were balanced out by people defending the waiter and calling out the “PC Brigade”.
