A taste of the Pacific

Auckland could be set to receive its first dedicated kava space. The proposed kava room will be called Four Shells Kava Room, and according to their website, will be a place to buy high-quality kava, as well as a community space for calm socialising and relaxing. Additionally, Four Shells hope to sell and promote other Pasifika products, as well as host cultural events and workshops.

Four Shells has acquired space in the Victoria Park Markets and is running a Kickstarter campaign to try and raise the additional funds needed for the fitout.

Kava is a drink made from the root of the kava plant and is consumed widely throughout Pacific Island nations. The drink is known to relax the consumer and promote conversation. While there are general concerns that excessive consumption may lead to health problems, the Ministry of Health said it had no current concern over the kava consumption in New Zealand.
