A Gourmet offering

Kumara chips are one of the fastest growing categories in the market, with more and more consumers switching over by the day. Nutritious Foods has been a pioneer in the kumara chip market, first launching its kumara snack chips in 2012.

The Sunny Hill Kumara Fries and Wedges have been available in the retail space for several years now but will soon be made available to the foodservice industry as an upmarket offering under the Kenny’s brand as Gourmet Kumara Fries and Gourmet Kumara Wedges.

“No one else does kumara wedges,” explained Nutritious Foods director Kenneth Wang. “Kumara come in all shapes and sizes so there is no machine that can do the job – we have to cut them all by hand.”

The light coating on Kenny’s kumara chips mean that the chips and wedges retain their golden colour throughout cooking. They also cook faster than regular chips, which means that the oil in the fryer will stay cleaner for longer. Despite kumara prices being among the most variable, Wang said that Nutritious Foods has made the commitment to keep a steady price for buyers.
