5 COFFEE TRENDS WE’RE EXPERIENCING IN 2018

MUSHROOM COFFEE

2017 saw the rise of the green filled cup of matcha coffee, followed by the similar hued broccoli coffee which made its appearance earlier this year, so it’s no surprise that crazy coffee combinations went a step further with the rise of mushroom coffee. The fungi infused cup a joe has been hailed as a healthier option as it is rumoured to increase metabolism, help to prevent Alzheimer’s, and is also said to lower the risk of depression.

A SPARKLING CUP A JOE

2018 saw a resurgence in sparkling water thanks largely to the increased popularity of La Croix. This bubbly trend didn’t take long before it had transferred over to coffee shops, with places like San Francisco’s Saint Frank coffee shop and Everyman Espresso in New York serving up coffee and tonic water combinations. Some beverage companies have also come on board serving up cans of the killer combo.

EVERYTHING ADDED

Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts recently released their new Fall menu lists. And much to nobodies surprise the new menu features an array of spiced sugary brews. Pumpkin spiced lattes were hot on the list as were maple-infused frappuccinos. Turmeric spiced beverages have also been trending this year as more and more millennials search for the next Instagramable brew.

A NEW KINDA CUP

Waste reduction has been big news this year with major companies making pledges to reduce waste. Coffee creators got on board with this environmentally friendly trend by crafting new innovative ways for consumers to have their morning coffee. Using an avocado skin as a cup probably takes the cake. Melbourne’s Truman Café started serving up the avocado skinned coffees earlier this year causing a storm on social media.

NITRO COFFEE

Jumping on the cold brew coffee craze, Nitro coffee quickly hit shelves in gas stations and supermarkets. The coffee is pumped with nitrogen gas to give it a smooth and creamier feel. The infusion of the nitrogen also makes the flavour of the coffee much stronger.
